Speech is the human capacity to communicate:
✓ Verbal – expressing and understanding/perceiving one’s thoughts through words – spoken and written speech.
✓ Non-verbal – body language.
Speech assessment begins at 2 months of age.
If a 2-month-old child does not laugh, does not vocally produce individual sounds such as “Agu,” “Ag,” “G-ha,” does not react to the voice and emotions of the mother, does not attempt to communicate with her through gestures and sounds, a consultation with a pediatrician and neurologist is necessary, and particular attention should be paid to this issue. Such a child requires special observation and is considered at risk for speech disorders; it is categorically forbidden to use gadgets (screens) with them.
We monitor speech development up to the age of 2 years.
By the age of 2, a child has a vocabulary of up to 25 words, most of which are pronounced correctly, can form two-word sentences, follows simple commands (“give me the toy,” “show me your hand,” etc.), giggles, engages in role-playing with dolls, with family members, recognizes body parts.
If a 2-year-old child’s speech capabilities do not meet the above criteria, it is considered that they have speech disorders and require comprehensive rehabilitation – involving a neurologist, psychologist, speech therapist, and speech-language pathologist.
At the high-tech hospital medical center, you can receive consultations from the aforementioned specialists.
