Screening

Screening involves the examination of an asymptomatic, healthy population in order to identify it at an early stage of diagnosis. Research has  shown that the sooner we identify a problem, the more reliable the solution will be. Effective screening reduces cancer-related mortality.

What kind of screening programs are performed in the clinic and who can use these programs?

Georgian citizens registered in the regions can participate in the screening by defining certain age groups.

The screening component of the program includes:

Screening for breast cancer – 40 to 70 years old. Which provides for mammographic examination in two projections and a mammalogical examination (test). In case of pathology, breast ultrasound and cytological examination is free.

Breast cancer screening is free once every two years;

Cervical cancer screening – from 25 to 60 years old, which includes a Pap test. Colposcopy (microscopic examination of the cervix) is also free if necessary, and morphological examination of biopsy material taken during colposcopy is also free of charge if necessary.

Free screening will be done once every three years;

Screening for prostate cancer from -50 to 70 years. Which includes screening for prostate cancer antigen (PSA) in the blood.

Prostate cancer screening is free once a year;

Colorectal cancer screening (Examination of the colon) for 50 to 70 years. Which provides a special test for occult bleeding in case of a positive result Colonoscopy is also free;

If necessary, morphological examination of biopsy material taken during colonoscopy is also free;

Colon cancer screening is free every two years;

The program is funded by Batumi City Hall „Diagnosis and Prevention of Early Forms of Oncological Diseases“

Only citizens registered in Batumi can participate in the screening provided by the program.

  • Breast cancer screening for 30 to 40 years old and over 70 years old;
  • Elastography of the mammary gland for women aged 25 to 30 years;

Examination with onco markers;

  • The mammary gland CA-15,3
  • The ovarian gland Ca- 125
  • Thyroid gland  Tg

Lung cancer screening:

  • Women 50-60 years old;
  • Men 50-65 years old.

 

Screening involves consultation with an oncologist and, if necessary, computed tomography of the lungs.
