DEXA-densitometry is a method of visualizing-instrumental research, through which determine the mineral density of bones – the degree of osteoporosis.
There are various methods and equipment for determining bone density, of which the dual-energy X-ray absorption meter is currently considered the gold standard, the same DEXA densitometer (dual energy X-ray absorptiometry).
Densitometry is recommended:
- For postmenopausal women;
- For men over 60-70 years old;
- For those who have suffered or currently have a fracture (especially- caused by minor injury),
- Estrogen deficiency;
- Toxic goiter;
- Chronic diseases of the kidney and liver;
- Rheumatoid arthritis;
- Celiac disease;
- Pathologies of the spine and other chronic diseases.
Also noteworthy are risk factors such as excessive intake of alcohol and coffee, tobacco consumption, and poor ration with dairy products, sedentary lifestyle, Inheritance complicated by fractures, and weight deficiency.
